Additional Information

Not Included in this Kit

Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.

Anchoring Hardware - While this pergola kit does include stainless steel wood screws for securing 4x4" wood posts into the brackets, it does not include anchoring hardware for securing the base brackets into a secure base (i.e. cement pad, deck, landscape toppers, concrete footing, etc.) or for securing the wall mount brackets to the outside wall of your home. This is because the anchoring hardware you need will vary based on a) what type of material you're going into and b) local building codes.

Required Lumber & Estimated Cost

As noted above, wood (lumber) is NOT included in this kit for building a roofed pergola with a wall on 2 sides, nor is the hardware you'll need to anchor the base brackets and wall mount brackets. Before you can build your roofed pergola, you'll need to purchase the following items from a local building supply store or lumber yard (assuming you plan to build a 24' x 24' pergola that is 8' tall):

Six (6) 8' long 6x6 posts
Ten (10) 12' long 6x6 posts
Forty-four (44) 12' long 2x6 slats
Anchoring hardware (36 pieces)

The estimated cost for the above lumber and anchoring hardware is $1,599. This is only an estimate; actual costs will vary depending on the type of wood you decide to buy, your location, local stores & availability, and various other factors.

This DIY pergola kit for patio/deck privacy will accommodate any attached pergola ranging from 13-24 feet wide by 13-24 feet deep. The deck/patio pergola with 2 shade walls does not need to be exactly 24' x 24' like in the images on this page.

The kit includes 88 2x6 insert brackets. While the images on this page show that 56 of these brackets are used to add 28 straight inline roof rafters to your pergola (7 rafters to each of the four roof sections, all a 12' span with standard spacing between rafters) and the remaining 32 brackets are used to add two privacy walls with 8 slats each (both 8' tall with standard spacing between slats), you can use the brackets any way you'd like (i.e. adding another privacy wall or half/partial wall, adding a side railing, installing the roof rafters and/or wall slats at an angle, etc.). You can also purchase additional 2x6 insert brackets here.
