The wood pergola with black brackets does not need to be exactly 12' x 12' like in the images on this page. The kit includes 14 2x6 rafter brackets . While the images on this page show that all 14 brackets are used to add 7 traditional roof rafters atop the beams of the pergola (covering a span of 12' with standard spacing between rafters), you can use the brackets any way you'd like .
