Do Zen Pergola kits require assembly?

Yes, all Zen Pergola kits require basic assembly. Our bracket system makes it simple, and step-by-step instructions are provided.

What tools are required?

You will need a drill, socket wrench, ladder, and measuring tape. All brackets and hardware are included in the kit.

How long does assembly take?

Most customers complete assembly in 3–6 hours with two people, depending on pergola size.

What type of wood should I use?

We recommend pressure-treated lumber (4x4 or 6x6 posts, 2x6 or 2x8 beams/rafters). Lumber requirements vary by kit size.

Additional Information

Not Included in this Kit

Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.

Anchoring Hardware - While this pergola kit does include stainless steel wood screws for securing 4x4" wood posts into the brackets, it does not include anchoring hardware for securing the base brackets into a secure base (i.e. cement pad, deck, landscape toppers, concrete footing, etc.) or for securing the wall mount brackets to the outer wall of your house. This is because the anchoring hardware you need will vary based on a) what type of material you're going into and b) local building codes.
