• More Info About Kit: This stand-alone pergola kit will accommodate any free-standing pergola ranging from 4-12 feet wide by 4-12 feet deep . The modern wood pergola does not need to be exactly 12' x 12' like in the images on this page. The kit includes 30 2x4 insert brackets . While the images on this page show that 10 of these brackets are used to add 5 straight inline roof rafters (covering a span of 12' with far spacing between rafters) and the remaining 20 brackets are used to add one privacy wall with 10 slats (8' tall with far spacing between slats), you can use the brackets any way you'd like (i.e. adding another privacy wall or half/partial wall, adding a side railing, installing the roof rafters and/or wall slats at an angle, etc.). You can also purchase additional 2x4 insert brackets here .
• Preconfigured Spacing Level: FAR SPACING
• Preconfigured Wall Count: 1 PRIVACY WALL
• Preconfigured Roof Type: STRAIGHT 2x4s
• Required Lumber and Cost: As noted above, wood (lumber) is NOT included in this DIY kit for building a freestanding pergola, nor is the hardware you'll need to anchor the base brackets to a secure foundation. Before you can build your Do-It-Yourself pergola, you'll need to purchase the following items from a local building supply store or lumber yard (assuming you plan to build a 12' x 12' pergola that is 8' tall): Four (4) 8' long 4x4 posts Four (4) 12' long 4x4 posts Fifteen (15) 12' long 2x4 slats Anchoring hardware (16 pieces) The estimated cost for the above lumber and anchoring hardware is $380 . This is only an estimate; actual costs will vary depending on the type of wood you decide to buy, your location, local stores & availability, and various other factors.
