Additional Information

Not Included in this Kit

Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.

Anchoring Hardware - While this pergola kit does include stainless steel wood screws for securing 4x4 (and 2x4, if applicable) lumber into the brackets, it does not include anchoring hardware for securing the base brackets into a secure base (i.e. cement pad, deck, landscape toppers, concrete footing, etc.) or for securing the wall mount brackets to the outside wall of your home. This is because the anchoring hardware you need will vary based on a) what type of material you're going into and b) local building codes.

Required Lumber & Estimated Cost

As noted above, wood (lumber) is NOT included in this pergola frame and slats brackets & hardware kit, nor is the hardware you'll need to anchor the base brackets and wall mount brackets. Before you can build your wood & metal pergola, you'll need to purchase the following items from a local building supply store or lumber yard (assuming you plan to build a 12' x 12' pergola that is 8' tall):

Six (6) 8' long 4x4 posts
Ten (10) 12' long 4x4 posts
Sixty-six (66) 12' long 2x4 slats
Anchoring hardware (36 pieces)

The estimated cost for the above lumber and anchoring hardware is $1,052. This is only an estimate; actual costs will vary depending on the type of wood you decide to buy, your location, local stores & availability, and various other factors.

This bracket kit for building a slatted wood pergola will accommodate any attached pergola ranging from 13-24 feet wide by 13-24 feet deep. The modern wood-slat pergola does not need to be exactly 24' x 24' like in the images on this page.

The kit includes 132 2x4 insert brackets. While the images on this page show that 96 of these brackets are used to add 48 angled roof slats to your pergola (12 slats to each of the four roof sections, all a 12' span with far spacing between slats) and the remaining 36 brackets are used to add two privacy walls with 9 angled slats each (both 8' tall with far spacing between slats), you can use the brackets any way you'd like (i.e. adding another privacy wall or half/partial wall, adding a side railing, installing the roof rafters and/or wall slats straight up & down, etc.). You can also purchase additional 2x4 insert brackets here.
