Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.
Anchoring Hardware - While this pergola kit does include stainless steel wood screws for securing 4x4" wood posts into the brackets, it does not include anchoring hardware for securing the base brackets into a secure base (i.e. cement pad, deck, landscape toppers, concrete footing, etc.). This is because the anchoring hardware you need will vary based on a) what type of material you're going into and b) local building codes.

As noted above, wood (lumber) is NOT included in this DIY pergola bracket kit, nor is the hardware you'll need to anchor the base brackets to a secure foundation. Before you can build your DIY pergola, you'll need to purchase the following items from a local building supply store or lumber yard (assuming you plan to build a 12' x 12' pergola that is 8' tall):
The estimated cost for the above lumber and anchoring hardware is $1,160. This is only an estimate; actual costs will vary depending on the type of wood you decide to buy, your location, local stores & availability, and various other factors.

This steel bracket kit for a triangle-shaped corner pergola will accommodate any free-standing pergola ranging from 14-24 feet wide by 14-24 feet deep as long as the width and depth are the same. The DIY pergola does not need to be exactly 24' x 24' like in the images on this page.
The kit includes 66 2x6 rafter brackets so you can add 2x6 roof rafters atop the beams of the pergola. For closer roof rafter spacing and even more shade, you can purchase additional 2x6 rafter brackets here.
