The 2-post attached pergola does not need to be exactly 12' x 12' like in the images on this page. The kit includes 22 2x4 rafter brackets . While the images on this page show that all 22 brackets are used to add 11 traditional roof rafters atop the beams of the pergola (covering a span of 12' with closely-spaced rafters), you can use the brackets any way you'd like .
