Overview
Corner supports have 2 purposes:
- They add a nice accent to the look of any free-standing or attached pergola; and
- They provide support for long beams (i.e. 10-12 feet) and prevent bowing and sagging of the wood.
Unlike the 6x6 corner supports kit (which can only be used with pergolas that have a 6x6 frame), this 4x4 corner supports kit can be used for both pergolas with a 4x4 frame and pergolas with a 6x6 frame.
Two 4x4 corner support brackets are used for each 4x4 corner support: one at the top to secure the corner support to the horizontal beam, and one at the bottom to secure the corner support to the vertical post.

Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.
Base & Corner Brackets - The 4 base brackets and 4 corner 3-arm brackets shown in these images are for illustration purposes only. They are not included in this corner supports kit.
