Additional Information

Not Included in this Kit

Wood - Lumber is a) very expensive to ship and b) readily available to most people at local home improvement and building supply stores. By buying your wood locally, you also have more options on the exact type of wood you'd like that is appropriate for your area's climate.

Anchoring Hardware - While this pergola kit does include stainless steel wood screws for securing 4x4" wood posts into the brackets, it does not include anchoring hardware for securing the base brackets into a secure base (i.e. cement pad, deck, landscape toppers, concrete footing, etc.). This is because the anchoring hardware you need will vary based on a) what type of material you're going into and b) local building codes.

Required Lumber & Estimated Cost

As noted above, wood (lumber) is NOT included in this DIY pergola/canopy combo kit, nor is the hardware you'll need to anchor the base brackets to a secure foundation. Before you can build your shade canopy pergola, you'll need to purchase the following items from a local building supply store or lumber yard (assuming you plan to build a 12' x 12' pergola that is 8' tall):

  • Four (4) 8' long 6x6 posts
  • Four (4) 12' long 6x6 posts
  • Six (6) 12' long 2x6 slats
  • Anchoring hardware (16 pieces)

The estimated cost for the above lumber and anchoring hardware is $589. This is only an estimate; actual costs will vary depending on the type of wood you decide to buy, your location, local stores & availability, and various other factors.

This DIY-friendly kit for a canopy-covered wood pergola will accommodate any free-standing pergola ranging from 8-12 feet wide by 8-12 feet deep. The canopy-covered pergola does not need to be exactly 12' x 12' like in the images on this page.

The kit includes a premium quality charcoal gray shade canopy in your choice of 6 size options: 8x8, 8x10, 8x12, 10x10, 10x12 or 12x12. The canopy is made of fade-resistant 180 GSM High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) knitted fabric that blocks up to 95% of UV rays and is permeable to prevent rain from pooling on top. Each side of the shade canopy has 4 straps to keep it tight and prevent drooping. The kit also includes all necessary corner and side accessory mounts (including screws) to secure the shade canopy straps to the corner brackets and beams of the pergola.

The kit also includes 12 2x6 insert brackets. While the images on this page show that all 12 brackets are used to add one privacy wall with 6 slats (8' tall with far spacing between slats), you can use the brackets any way you'd like (i.e. adding another privacy wall or half/partial wall, adding a side railing, adding roof rafters
